CSIR Net/JRF is one of the most prestigious national-level examinations conducted jointly by CSIR & UGC (JOINT CSIR – UGC NET EXAMINATION). This exam is conducted 2 times in a year in June and December. CSIR covers a wide spectrum of science and technology steams. JRFs can apply to be a part of the prestigious National Science & Technology Human Resource Team. This exam is only conducted for students who have completed their secondary education in a science background. The fellowship stipend is around Rs.31,000/- per month and Rs.20,000/- yearly contingent grand.
Students who got selected through this examination will get the opportunity to give their contribution to teaching in various IITs, readership labs and various prestigious institutes in India. Now, let’s have a quick review regarding the examination pattern and syllabus.
Exam pattern & Syllabus
The subjects covered under CSIR NET/JRF examination conducted twice a year are Mathematical Science, Life Sciences, Chemical Science, Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean & Planetary Science and Physical Sciences. This exam is conducted in total online mode and it is a Computer Based Examination (CBE) with three parts – A, B & C with a maximum mark of 200 with no break. Let us tell you that there is a negative marking available in the examination with a negative mark of @25%. For completing the examination, the candidates are allotted 3 hours.
Out of the 3 hours allotted for competing for 200 marks questions, 145 questions directly appear from life science and 150 questions are from the section of Earth, Atmospheric Science, Ocean and Planetary Science. 120 questions are from the Mathematical Section and 120 questions are from the section Chemical Science. The rest of the questions available in the examination which is around 75 appear from the category of Physical science.
The questions will appear in Hindi & English only.
